Being a Cornhusker football fan I really enjoyed quilting this for my customer. Some days work is just plain fun!
Custom Quilting is so Fun!
These blocks from the Mommy and Me quilt a customer recently brought to me for some custom quilting.
QOV
One of my customers brought me this lovely quilt with an Air Force theme which she intends to use as a Quilt of Valor. I think any active duty person or veteran would be thrilled and honored to receive this quilt in appreciation of their sacrifice and service to our country. God bless the recipient and God bless America.
Lofty Wool Batting
This is the quilt that came off the longarm frame this morning. My customer wanted some extra loft in this quilt so I used wool batting. I love the definition this batting provides.
I Love Applique
I love applique but I have not mastered the technique so when I found this top at an estate sale I just had to buy it. I paid $5.00 for this gem and could hardly wait to gt it home and on the frame. What fun it was to do some custom work on it, bind it, and hang it in my studio.
A Modern Quilt
Modern quilts are fun to make because they are generally basic designs and often contain significant blank space. These quilts are fun to work on for a longarm quilter because they demand an interesting quilting design. The pictured quilt was inspired by a charm pack that a customer had given me for my birthday. I wanted to make a graduation quilt for my grandaughter. She is an amazing girl so I chose a quilting design that looked like a maze to add interest to the white fabric between the chevrons. The quilt won a blue ribbon at the Omaha Quilters' Guild annual show in the modern quilt category. That's always fun.
The Best and Worst of Minkee
Minkee is such a wonderful soft fabric to use on the back of a quilt and many customers bring it to me. I have no trouble quilting it on my long arm machine. However, I caution my customers to be careful to choose a color of minkee that does not contrast with the quilt top colors or the color of thread used in quilting. Little bits of fiber from the minkee can be pulled to the top of the quilt during the quilting process causing a less than satisfactory visual effect. Instead, choose a color similar to the color of thread you would like for the quilting or similar to the main tone of the quilt whether it is light or dark. Then you'll have the bestpossible result and a beautiful soft quilt.
Everyone Loves Daisies
Well, maybe everyone doesn't love daisies but a lot of my customers do. I have done this edge to edge on a number of quilts and it always turns out cute. This quilt has minkee on the back and you can see how the quilting shows up on that.
